1. The Waiting Game
The moment you close the door, your dog often heads straight to their favorite lookout spot. Whether it’s the front window, the couch, or the door you just walked out of, many dogs spend the first stretch of alone time simply… waiting.
Some dogs are content to lounge patiently. Others may whine or pace for a bit. Either way, that initial stretch shows just how loyal (and attached) they are to you.
2. Power Naps and Dream Adventures
Dogs sleep an average of 12–14 hours a day (puppies even more!). While you’re gone, your pup likely takes several power naps, often drifting into deep REM sleep where they twitch, bark, or wag their tails mid-dream.
Chances are, they’re chasing squirrels, running with their pack, or reliving yesterday’s game of fetch.
3. Sniff, Patrol, Repeat
Even in your absence, dogs love to patrol their “territory.” That could mean circling the living room, sniffing their toy basket, or inspecting the backyard.
For them, it’s about reassurance: Is everything safe? Has anything changed? It’s their version of checking emails — except it smells way more interesting.
4. Playtime (Solo Edition)
Some pups will toss toys in the air, roll on their backs, or play little games with themselves. Chewing bones, tugging at blankets, and even “zoomies” around the house can all be part of their secret solo play.
