Ever seen your dog suddenly sprint around the house like a rocket, eyes wide, tail tucked, and energy at max level?
Congratulations—you’ve witnessed the joyfully chaotic phenomenon known as the zoomies.

What Are Zoomies?
“Zoomies” is the casual term for F.R.A.P.s—Frenetic Random Activity Periods. It’s when your dog suddenly bursts into high-energy movement, running in circles, darting back and forth, or doing wild laps around the yard or living room.
It’s totally normal—and usually hilarious.
Why Do Dogs Get the Zoomies?
Dogs usually get the zoomies when they’re:
- Releasing pent-up energy
- Super excited or happy
- Fresh out of the bath (seriously, it’s a thing!)
- Adjusting to a new environment
- Just finished doing their business outside (aka: the ‘poo-phoria’ zoomies)
Think of it as your dog’s way of letting off steam in one explosive burst.
When Do Zoomies Happen Most?
You might notice zoomies:
- First thing in the morning
- After being crated or left alone
- Post-bath or grooming
- After a walk (or when one is overdue!)
- During playtime with other dogs
Zoomies often come out of nowhere—and disappear just as fast.
Should I Be Worried?
Nope! Zoomies are totally normal, especially in puppies and younger dogs. As long as your pup is in a safe, open space (no slippery floors or fragile decor), let them go wild.
If you’re seeing zoomies constantly or your pup seems overly hyper all the time, it could mean they need more walks, more play, or more stimulation. That’s where we come in!
